San Lorenzo Wedding in Florence
A ceremony in the Basilica of San Lorenzo, portraits above Florence and a party at the Giardino di Travalle.

The story
From the city to the countryside
This San Lorenzo wedding started with the bride and groom getting ready, moved to the Basilica of San Lorenzo in the centre of Florence and ended with dinner and dancing at the Giardino di Travalle, a villa farm in the hills just outside the city.
If you are planning yours, our page on Tuscany wedding photography explains how we work and how to ask for a quote.
In this story
Getting ready
The bride and groom getting ready
The bride got ready under a portico with family and friends, the house dog never far away: jewelled shoes, a lace dress buttoned down the back, the veil. The groom dressed at home: the blue jacket hanging at the window, cufflinks, the buttonhole pinned at the last minute.
Some frames we kept in black and white.

The church
The Basilica of San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo was the Medici family church, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi: grey stone columns, a coffered ceiling, a chequered floor. The bride arrived in the square in a white vintage Beetle and walked in on someone’s arm, her long veil trailing on the steps.
Inside, the vows and the rings in front of the high altar, then the signing and the walk out into the square among the guests.

Portraits
San Lorenzo wedding portraits above Florence
After the church we went up above the city with the couple, the Duomo behind them and a stone staircase. Then, on the way to the reception, a white road through the fields and a low wall in the warm evening light.
The evening
At the Giardino di Travalle
The party was at the Giardino di Travalle in Calenzano: drinks in the garden by the pool and the statues, dinner under the loggia with blue and white flowers and, instead of a classic wedding cake, a fruit tart cut by the chef in front of the couple. Then dancing in the garden with their friends.
