Maternity Photoshoot Val d’Orcia: A Babymoon from Pienza to San Quirico
A babymoon photographed in Pienza, in Bagno Vignoni, below the Chapel of Vitaleta and among the cypresses of San Quirico d’Orcia.

The story
A babymoon in four places of the Val d’Orcia
This maternity photoshoot Val d’Orcia story follows an expecting couple through four places of southern Tuscany: the lanes of Pienza, the thermal square of Bagno Vignoni, the road below the Chapel of Vitaleta and the circle of cypresses near San Quirico d’Orcia.
They came to Tuscany for their babymoon, and we photographed it from the first walk in town to the last light among the trees. If you are planning one, our page on the babymoon photoshoot in Tuscany explains how a session works, where we photograph and how to ask for a quote.

Pienza
Lanes, walls and Via dell’Amore
We started in Pienza, the small Renaissance town above the valley whose historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The couple walked hand in hand through the stone lanes, between flowered doorways and quiet corners.
From the walk along the town walls the view opens onto the Val d’Orcia, with Monte Amiata on the horizon and the cathedral bell tower behind. One frame is under the street sign of Via dell’Amore.

The countryside
The Chapel of Vitaleta and the wheat fields
Outside Pienza we moved into the open fields. The Chapel of Vitaleta stands in the background of the first frame, at the end of a white gravel road. Then the hills and the wheat: the two of them walking, laughing, their hands on the baby bump.
The whole landscape of the Val d’Orcia, with its farms, cypresses and cultivated hills, is itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bagno Vignoni
The thermal pool and Parco dei Mulini
In Bagno Vignoni the main square is a thermal pool, Piazza delle Sorgenti. We photographed the couple under the stone loggia facing the water, with the old houses reflected in the pool.
Just below the village, the travertine terraces of Parco dei Mulini look out over the Orcia valley. Here he knelt to kiss the bump.
Last light
Maternity photoshoot Val d’Orcia among the cypresses of San Quirico
The session ended at the circle of cypresses near San Quirico d’Orcia. The low sun drew long shadows on the gravel between the trees, and the last frames are backlit: the mother-to-be walking alone in her white dress, her partner kneeling beside her, the two of them embracing at the centre of the circle.

Other babymoon sessions in Val d’Orcia
They are not the first couple we photographed here while waiting for a baby. You can see an earlier babymoon photoshoot in Pienza and a babymoon photo shoot in Val d’Orcia among the hills. In the same countryside we also photographed an elopement in Pienza and a Val d’Orcia proposal that started on the walls of Pienza.
Locations, seasons and what a session includes are on our page about the babymoon photoshoot in Tuscany.
