Sala Rossa, Florence
Palazzo Vecchio Wedding in Florence
A civil ceremony in the Sala Rossa, a walk through the centre of Florence and a party in a farmhouse in Polcanto.

The story
A wedding among friends at Palazzo Vecchio
This Palazzo Vecchio wedding means a lot to us: the bride, Enrica, has been Chiara’s friend since their days at the Accademia di Grafica e Fotografia. She and Giovanni have been together for years, and they married with a civil ceremony in the Sala Rossa, with their two children by their side.
When a friend asks you to photograph her wedding, you want the pictures to show her as she really is. We followed the day closely, with photos and video: the hair salon, Piazza della Signoria, the ceremony, a walk through the city, portraits in a garden above Florence and the party in the countryside.

Getting ready
At the Rasoi Hair Jazz salon
The bride got ready at Rasoi Hair Jazz, a very unusual hair salon full of vintage signs, enamel mugs on the walls, brushes and mirrors. The dress hung in the middle of the room.
Enrica got dressed right there, with her daughter helping with the skirt and the shoes. The bouquet and the fuchsia shoes were waiting on a chair.

Piazza della Signoria
Arriving in the square
The guests gathered in Piazza della Signoria, under the tower of Palazzo Vecchio and next to the Fountain of Neptune. Hugs, greetings, children running between the grown-ups.
The groom waited with the children, then everyone walked up to the Sala Rossa. The bride came in with the kids at her side.

The civil ceremony
Civil wedding at Palazzo Vecchio in the Sala Rossa
The ceremony took place in the Sala Rossa, with its crimson velvet, gilded stucco, large tapestries and a chandelier in the middle. It was built during the Renaissance expansion of the palace and took its current look in the second half of the 19th century, when it became the bedroom of Baron Bettino Ricasoli. We photographed the couple in front of the officiant, the rings on the golden dish, the smiles and the applause.
After the ceremony
From the city to the party in Polcanto
We took a few photos on the stone stairs of Palazzo Vecchio, walked to the carousel in Piazza della Repubblica and made the couple portraits in a private garden overlooking Florence. The party lasted a week, in a farmhouse in Polcanto, near Borgo San Lorenzo: it started as a family dinner under the portico and soon turned into a dance party under the stars.

Questions
Questions about a Palazzo Vecchio wedding
Which room of Palazzo Vecchio was the wedding held in?
In the Sala Rossa, one of the historic rooms of Palazzo Vecchio, with crimson velvet, gilded stucco and large tapestries.
Can you photograph the ceremony in the Sala Rossa?
Yes, we photographed and filmed the whole ceremony. Civil ceremonies are short, so we take our place before the couple walks in and work without interrupting the officiant.
Where can we take photos after the ceremony?
Piazza della Signoria and the palace stairs are right there. At this wedding we also walked to Piazza della Repubblica and made portraits in a garden overlooking Florence.
Do you also photograph the party outside Florence?
Yes. Here the party was in a farmhouse in Polcanto, in the Mugello. We work all over Tuscany, from the city to the countryside.
Do you also photograph elopements in Florence?
Yes, small weddings and elopements in Florence and all over Tuscany. Have a look at our Tuscany elopement page.
